Track Name: Milyerra Fire Trail

Description

Milyerra Road Fire Trail is a relatively short trail from Kariong in the west to a point about halfway between Point Clare and Tascott in the east. The track surface is variable, ranging from fairly smooth solidly compacted dirt, to fairly coarse loose rocks, but nothing was an issue even at my low skill and experience level, riding my Trek Fuel EX9.7 running Bontrager XR4 Team Issue 29x2.60" tyres. The track crosses an area of smooth rock outcrop that is the site of Aboriginal Rock Engravings. A sign on either side of this location advises what not to do there. I tried to respectfully and carefully find the engravings but wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for ... all I found were a couple of small perfectly circular engavings. I might have to research this and go back. I didn't photograph these as I was unsure of the rules and preferences of the traditional owners. The trail crosses Corrumbine Creek fire trail which runs roughly north-south. The first day I explored this track there was roadwork / maintenance being done on Corrumbine Creek fire trail, preventing my original plan to explore that track. The sign says this work is expected to continue until "31/06/20" ... somebody didn't think that through cos there's no such day :-) Along the track were quite a few "speed humps". I'm guessing these are to slow down anyone who manages to get through the locked gates, or perhaps they're designed to divert water to the side of the track rather than allow more erosion ... anyway, for us MTBers, consider them "jumps" if you're going fast enough ;-) I didn't venture to the end of the track ... I got to a point where it got VERY steep going downhill and I just didn't think I'd have the time or enthusiasm for doing a hike-a-bike back up. I encountered a jogger who told me that part is "just way to steep to try to run up" so I decided I might leave that part to another trip when I have a bit more time. Looking closer at the topo and Strava maps later it appears that it might only have dropped 50m or so, and I probably could have managed it. Oh well, next time!
